They maybe internal, regional or even international depending on the location of those involved. People of the same country fight over limited resources while neighboring countries fight to saf e guard their interests. In the end, the wars disrupt the lives of ordinary citizens as people in the battle front are forced to flee to save their lives. Many lives are lost when defenseless citizens are attacked by the enemy and during confrontations of the rivals. Lately, we have seen new conflicts emerging as Islamic groups like Islamic State of Middle East and Boko Haram of Nigeria fight armies in their respective regions as they try to seize territories.Establishment of the modern day Israel began on November 29, 1947 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution for the partitioning of the Palestine into an independent Arab state and independent Jewish state. The agreement triggered new round of violence, resulting in thousands killed and many more injured (George). Illan reckons there were battles earlier in the British ruled Palestine between Jews and mandatory authorities ( 21). In 1936, Irgun, a military organization was formed with an aim of creating Je wish territory in the whole of Palestine and Transjordan (21). Another group LEHI was formed after Irgun separated into two groups during the second world war when the later decided to cease hostilities against Britain which was fighting Nazis but they merged later (21). British completed withdrawal of its forces from the Palestine in May 14, 1948 and David Ben-Gurion declared establishment of the state of Israel which was recognized immediately by United States. This marked the beginning of the current Arab Israel conflict since the Arabs did not support the establishment of an Israel state in their territory.On May 15, 1948 six Arab states- Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, Iraqi and Egypt began an offensive against Israel although only Egypt was serious. According to Fraser Egypt had two brigades which were fighting hard threatening Tel Aviv and British-officered Arab Legion (45). King Abdullah who was charged with leading the Arab league as Shlaim says had limited resources and just concentrated his efforts on securing the Arab areas of the country to safeguard his dynasty. Initially, the Arabs had a clear advantage over Israel in terms of superior weapons and air power (Fraser 45). United Nations negotiated a truce that was signed on 11 June which saved Israel from Jordanian and Egyptian forces. Israel took the advantage of the prevailing peace to bring in fighter jets and weapons from Europe and Czechoslovakia (46). When the conflict resumed on 8 July, Israel forces made fast advances in areas like Galilee and towns of Lydda and Ramle, and large-scale expulsions of Palestinians was reported (46). Arab States fought with Israel again in 1967 and 1973 but the latter won adding Gaza and West Bank to its territory.Palestine Liberation Organization was formed in 1964 to fight Israel occupation. In the next 25 years under Yasser Arafat leadership, it unleashed bloody war against Israel (George).
